Colorado Small Farms List-Serve
CSU has set up the list serv on their server. This will allow you to use the list serv as a communication tool that will reach all of the members of the list. REMEMBER THIS WHEN YOU SEND OR REPLY - YOUR MESSAGE WILL GO TO EVERYONE ON THE LIST. This can be great for chatting about particular topics of production and marketing, especially for new farmers to find expertise from experienced farmers. For example, you can email the list and ask for tips on controlling bindweed with organic methods or ask how to set up a planting schedule for a CSA or simply to suggest resources that have proved helpful to your operation.
I will be sending out educational info and tools to assist and promote small farms in Colorado, including:
- specialty crops
- appropriate technology for small farms
- organic production techniques
- complex production scheduling (CSA)
- greenhouse, hoop house, season extension
- irrigation technology
- labor issues
- local and regional markets
- funding opportunities
- post harvest handling technology
- weed management
- organic nutrient management
- compost, vermicompost and compost teas
- insect and disease control
- National Organic Standards Board updates
- Colorado Department of Agriculture updates
- local and regional educational opportunities related to production and marketing
- ETC.
The list was initially set up to be moderated by me, but on second thought I'm going to change it to unmoderated so that uninterrupted dialogue can take place.
Anyone is welcome to subscribe, so please advertise this to your friends and neighbors working with small farms. (the 1998 USDA National Commission on Small Farms Report, "A Time to Act", defines small farms as grossing less than $250,000 per year, noting that the average net is $23,159).
THIS LIST IS NOT TO BE USED FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES!!! SINCE IT IS HOSTED BY CSU IT CAN ONLY BE USED FOR EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES.
Click on this link, find Small Farms in the list of lists, and follow the instructions. You should receive an email within 24 hrs confirming your subscription.
